What is an async video?

Definition

Async (asynchronous) video is video communication watched on the viewer's schedule instead of live: recorded updates, demos and explanations shared by link, replacing meetings that only transfer information.

Async video vs. meetings

A 4-minute recorded walkthrough replaces a 30-minute meeting when the goal is explaining, not deciding. Viewers watch at 1.5x, rewatch the hard part, and the explanation is reusable for the next person who asks.

Disposable vs. reusable async video

Quick personal updates can ship raw. Anything watched more than a few times — demos, tutorials, onboarding — repays polish: cleaned narration, zoom, captions and a written version for skimmers.
