What you can do

Everything you've recorded, one question away

Eleven read-only tools give your assistant access to the content on your Explaino account. It can find, read and share. It can't edit, delete or create.

  • Your videos & articles

Browse your recordings and pull out the full step-by-step guide or the finished video.

    • list_sessionsLists your recordings, newest first, with their status and share links.
    • get_sessionOpens one recording with its full step-by-step article.
    • get_articleReturns a recording's article as Markdown, or as structured JSON.
    • get_videoGets the exported video: its permanent link, the view page and a download link valid for 30 minutes.
  • Playlists

See how your recordings are organised and hand someone a whole collection.

    • list_playlistsLists the playlists you own or that contain your recordings, with item counts and visibility.
    • get_playlistOpens one playlist and the recordings in it, with links.
  • Search

Ask a question in plain words and get the recordings that answer it.

    • search_contentSearches the titles and article text of your recordings and returns the best matches with a snippet and links.
  • Credits & account

Check your balance and which Explaino account the assistant is connected to.

    • check_balanceShows your available Explaino credits and your plan.
    • mcp_auth_statusShows which Explaino account is connected and when the sign-in expires.
    • mcp_loginExplains how to sign in, or confirms you already are.
    • mcp_logoutExplains how to disconnect Explaino from your assistant.

Other MCP clients

Cursor, VS Code, Windsurf and any client that supports remote MCP servers over Streamable HTTP with OAuth.

  1. Add Explaino as a remote server in your client’s MCP config.
  2. Your client opens the Explaino sign-in the first time it connects.
  3. Clients that only run local (stdio) servers can bridge to Explaino with mcp-remote, as in the second snippet.

Signing in

Your Explaino account, your content only

The Explaino MCP uses standard OAuth sign-in, so your assistant never sees your password.

  1. 1

    Your assistant asks to connect

The first time it reaches the Explaino MCP without a sign-in, Explaino tells it where to sign in. Your client then opens a sign-in page in your browser.

  2. 2

    You sign in to Explaino

Use the same account you use in Explaino Studio. Your password goes to the Explaino sign-in page, never to the assistant.

  3. 3

    Your assistant gets a token

The client receives an access token through standard OAuth with PKCE and sends it with every request. Explaino checks it each time and only ever returns that account's content.

To sign out, remove the Explaino connector from your assistant. Explaino keeps no session for the MCP, and sign-in tokens expire on their own.

Try it

Things to ask your assistant

Once Explaino is connected, ask in plain words. Your assistant picks the right tool.

  • Search my Explaino recordings for how to add bank details and walk me through the steps.
  • List my ten most recent Explaino recordings and tell me which ones are still processing.
  • Find my Explaino guide on inviting a teammate and turn it into a short checklist.
  • Get me a download link for the video of my latest Explaino recording.
  • What's in my Customer onboarding playlist? Give me a link to each video.
  • A customer asked how to reset their password. Answer from my Explaino guides and link the video.
  • How many Explaino credits do I have left, and which plan am I on?
  • Which Explaino account are you connected to?
FAQ

Questions, answered

What can my assistant see?

Only the content on the Explaino account you signed in with: your recordings' titles and status, their step-by-step articles, video links, your playlists and your credit balance. It can't see other people's accounts.

Can it change, delete or create anything?

No. Every tool in the Explaino MCP is read-only. Your assistant can find, read and share what you've already made, but it can't edit or delete recordings, and it can't record or generate new videos. To make a new video, record with Explaino Studio, the Chrome extension or the desktop app; once it's ready, your assistant can find it.

Are the links it shares public?

Each recording's view link is a share link: anyone who has it can watch the video and read the article, so your assistant may include these links in its answers. Playlist links only work for public playlists. Video download links expire after 30 minutes.

Does it use my credits?

No. Searching, reading and sharing your content through the MCP doesn't use any Explaino credits. Checking your balance only reads it. Credits are still used when you create videos and articles in Explaino.

Which assistants does it work with?

Any MCP client that supports remote servers over Streamable HTTP with OAuth sign-in, including Claude (web, desktop and Claude Code), ChatGPT in developer mode, Cursor and VS Code. Clients that only run local servers can connect through mcp-remote.

Search didn't find anything I know is there.

The first time you search, Explaino builds a search index for your account. Until it finishes, only titles are searched and the result says so. Try again a minute later to search your article text too.

How do I disconnect?

Remove the Explaino connector in your assistant's settings. Explaino keeps no session for the MCP, so once the connector is gone it can't reach your content, and sign-in tokens also expire on their own.
