What is a training video?

Definition

A training video teaches employees or customers a skill, process or policy. Software training videos are typically narrated screen recordings; policy and soft-skill training may use presenters or animation.

Training video formats

The format follows the content.

  • Software walkthroughs: narrated screen recordings with zoom and captions.
  • Process and policy: slides or motion graphics with voiceover.
  • Soft skills: presenter or scenario videos.
  • Assessments: a short quiz after the video to confirm understanding.

Keeping training current

Training videos age every time the product or process changes. Cheap re-recording — capture once, regenerate the edit, voiceover and translations — is what keeps a training library accurate.
